today i rode the SHINKANSEN all the way to the end of the rail from TOKYO to HAKATA. that is the station on KUYSHU ISLAND next to FUKUOKA, where my cousin BRIAN TURNER is living and working on a FULLBRIGHT SCHOLORSHIP. these shinkansens are pretty elusive beasts because of the speed at which they move (300 KM/H) so getting a photo op was not easy. i nearly managed - but i will have another opportunity when i head back east to TOKYO. honestly, all i was thinking about while riding was how simple the whole process was and why AMERICA doesnt have these trains from SF to LA. NY to BOSTON. CHICAGO to NEW ORLEANS. somebody give me three good reasons, please.
